In addition, guidelines for management systems for sustainable events are also available.

Service standards
DS/EN 13200-1: Spectator facilities - Part 1: General characteristics for spectator viewing area

This standard has been prepared in order to specify the general design criteria for spectator facilities to enhance their functionality. Within this document, minimum and recommended dimensions are presented.

 

The standard specifies design and management requirements for spectator facilities at permanent or temporary entertainment venues, including sports stadiums, sports venues and other indoor and outdoor facilities.

 

The standard is not intended to be applied to other permanent venues, such as theatres, cinemas, opera houses, auditoriums, lecture halls and similar places.

DS/CEN/TR 13200-2: Spectator facilities - Service Areas

This technical report includes characteristics that are generally applicable to service areas.

 

It describes the aspects to be taken into account when selecting the physical location of an event.

 

For example, the nuisance of bystanders and facilities such as dirt, noise and discomfort to persons living or staying in the vicinity of the location. Similarly, the standard mentions issues such as infrastructure, facilities for participants (athletes, etc.), spectators, press, administration, etc.

DS/EN 13200-3: Spectator Facilities – Separating elements – Requirements

This standard specifies design requirements for the layout and use of spectator facilities at permanent or temporary entertainment venues, including sports stadiums, sports venues and other indoor and outdoor facilities.

 

The standard is not intended to be applied to other permanent venues, such as theatres, cinemas, opera houses, auditoriums, lecture halls and similar places.

 

Elements and barriers include:

 

- barrier in front of a row of fixed seats
- barrier adjacent ​ to end row of seats
- barrier behind a rear row of seats
- barrier at the foot of ​a gangway or on stairway, aligned at right angles to the direction of movement
- side or lateral barrier, aligned parallel to the direction of spectator movement
- gangway barriers
- gangway barriers in standing areas, aligned at right angles directed to the direction of the spectator;
- crush barriers
- barriers for spectator galleries
- external perimeter barriers and barriers between sectors.

DS/EN 13200-4: Spectator facilities - Seats - Product characteristics

This standard specifies the mechanical, physical and chemical product characteristics of fixed seating used in sports venues (indoor and outdoor) in the spectator viewing area. It also specifies the criteria for fixing the seating to the structure.

 

The purpose is to ensure adequate resistance to static and dynamic stresses and to atmospheric agents. This standard specifies comfort, functionality and safety requirements to prevent serious injury through normal use, as well as misuse that might reasonably be expected to occur.

DS/EN 13200-5: Spectator stands - Telescopic stands

This standard has been prepared in order to specify the general design criteria for spectator facilities (permanent, movable, demountable and telescopic) to enhance their functionality.

 

The standard specifies product characteristics for telescopic stands at permanent or temporary entertainment venues including sports stadiums, sports venues and indoor and outdoor facilities. 

 

Within this document, minimum and recommended dimensions are presented. In some countries there may be additional/different statutory and regulatory requirements. For Denmark, see National Annex DS/EN 13200-5 DK NA: 2014 Spectator facilities - Part 5: Telescopic stands.

DS/EN 13200-5: Spectator facilities - Telescopic stands - Danish Annex

This national annex establishes the conditions for implementation in Denmark of DS/EN 13200-5 for temporary structures in accordance with the Danish Building Act or Building Regulations. Other parties may put this national annex into effect by referring to it.

 

The annex includes the clauses of the standard where national choices are necessary to ensure conformity with the Danish Building Regulations and the Danish safety level. Additional information is also provided to assist the user of the standard.

DS/EN 13200-6: Spectator facilities - Demountable (temporary) stands

This standard has been prepared in order to specify the general design criteria for spectator facilities (permanent, movable, demountable and telescopic) to enhance their functionality.

 

The standard specifies product characteristics for demountable stands at permanent or temporary entertainment venues including sports stadiums, sports halls and indoor and outdoor facilities.

 

This standard is not applicable to stands of movable type in which the last row of places for spectators is less than 1m height from the ground.

DS/EN 13200-7: Spectator facilities - Entry and exit elements and routes

This European standard has been prepared to specify safety and general design criteria for entry and exit systems (including entry and exit elements and routes) used in spectator facilities during normal and emergency conditions.

 

Within this document, minimum and recommended values for dimensions are occasionally presented. It should be recognized that these values are to be considered as values that, in part, recognize different national requirements as a basic provision. Facilities for persons with special needs should be taken into consideration in the spectator facilities. Special needs embrace spectators with learning difficulties, impaired hearing, impaired vision, mobility impairment, children and elderly people.

 

Attention is drawn to the fact that in certain countries additional requirements may be applicable due to existing national regulations.

DS/EN 13200-8: Spectator facilities - Safety Management

This standard has been prepared in order to specify the technical general criteria for the planning and the safety of the management in spectator facilities.

 

It specifies the layout and the planning of the management, and the criteria to maintain this before, during and after any event.

 

The standard covers the following:

- the safety personnel
- safety policy
- safety procedures.

 

The standard does not apply to the roles and responsibilities of those who are part of the security system (police and security companies).

 

The fundamental principles contained in this standard are appropriate to all events, regardless of size, activity or audience profile.

 

The extent to which the individual details of the standard are relevant will vary for the individual organization, and in some cases all of the processes and procedures will not be relevant due to the size of the event. However, all events shall strive to achieve the standards highlighted by this document.

 

In some countries additional/different requirements may be applicable due to existing national regulations.

DS/ISO 20121: Event sustainability management systems - Requirements with guidance for use

This International Standard specifies requirements for an event sustainability management system for any type of event or event-related activity, and provides guidance on conforming to those requirements.

 

This standard is applicable to any organization that wishes to:

 

establish, implement, maintain and improve an event sustainability management system;
- ensure that the management system is in conformity with the organization's stated sustainable development policy.
- demonstrate conformity with this International Standard by
a) first party (self-determination and self-declaration),
b) second party (confirmation of conformity by parties outside the organization, e.g. clients),
c) an independent third party (e.g. a certification body).

 

This standard has been designed to address the management of ​improved sustainability throughout the event management cycle.
